I’m excited for this weekend! It’s the second time I’ll attend a writer’s retreat for the group I belong to with the retreat ten minutes from the house. The presenters will center their talks around AI. I’m AI neutral. I don’t use it, except when visiting a website that uses AI and I have no choice. I don’t use any AI in my writing. The program I use for editing has AI, but I ignore it’s suggestions. I have a wonderful human narrator, so I’m not interested in AI narrated audiobooks. The company who creates my covers doesn’t use AI images.
Why am I going? To be with other writers. To work on my writing projects in a different location. To hear what other authors are doing, to pick up ideas, to learn how others create, to take a step out of my usual routine.
We started off with a gathering to network this evening. I was asked what I wanted to learn this weekend. This question took me by surprise. Since I likely won’t attend the sessions about AI, I want to learn what others are reading, to hear about their process, to be entertained by their author journey, to find someone who is further along than me and see what they’re doing, to listen to what others have learned. I didn’t share this with the group at my table, but it did make me reflect on what I know, my own journey, and my changed mind set.
On Sunday, one of the sessions will be to make vision boards. The leader of this session emailed pictures she has that she’ll print out and we can use on our boards. Pictures of money, book awards, best selling author at various lists, travel pictures, lines of people at a book signing, speakers on a stage, and blank checks were included in her email. It made me think, what will I put on my vision board? Awards? I’ve already won a few. Travel? I’ve traveled a fair amount and prefer to be with my horse. Money? I’ve changed my mind set since I began 17 years ago. What I want to put on my vision board is a four-leaf clover for good luck. Something that represents good health. A peace symbol. A smiling face. Probably a couple more, but not much related to my author career. I find peace with where I’m at on my journey. If you made a vision board, what would you put on it?
