I mentioned before that it took over two years for me to change my mind set about my author career going forward. I don’t regret the time and introspection it took to arrive where I am now. I feel a freedom I didn’t have the first 15 years of my writing career. And with that freedom, I see opportunities. Because of that freedom, I can choose which opportunities I want. This different mind set has lifted a huge cloud of stress, even if it was self-created.
This perspective has created ease with all of my projects. The anthology is slowly coming together. One author is still MIA. Another is caught up in rounds of edits. The third has built her own momentum to finish her rewrites. I’m thinking we could publish in June.
The beta reader still has The Lost Gift. Whatever edits and rewrites need to happen, I think I can get it published by July 4. The last couple of years my holiday stories have been released in the summer. Maybe this is my subconscious trying to “write” it’s way to coolness.
I’ve been working on the math book. This new perspective has allowed me to create the activities without a ton of angst. It takes two to three days, a few hours each day, to get a lesson completed. I have five left to do. This one could also be published in June.
I won’t share all of my mind set, but I will say that it has taken a long time for me to acknowledge and accept all that I am not in control of. I can create all that goes into the book, approve the cover, and publish. How well it sells (assuming I have the right packaging and have met reader expectations), how successful my marketing efforts are, or even how engaged readers are is all out of my control. Instead of making myself miserable, I’ve let all that go. As a side benefit, I remind myself of world situations in which I have zero control. This doesn’t mean I don’t care or that I don’t take action to promote my books or stand up for justice. But I can do both, better, when my perspective is colored with peace instead of frustration. How supportive is your perspective?
