Another Check Mark in A Box

Posted On October 28, 2022

Know thy self, know thy artist. After my 4-month plan loaded with experiments, I returned to writing my manuscripts in a spiral notebook. I finally finished Desert Zydeco! I won’t list the many steps from handwritten draft to published file, but it amazes me every time how many pieces must come together before one of my books is released into the wild. And since DZ is also an experiment, I’ve made different decisions. And the only way to know if those decisions were the right ones? Check back and see if the results are what I hoped/planned.

I thought to try a paid service for beta reading. But with other parts of life floating in unstable air, I decided to forego the expense. The cover is not designed by Lily Skye, who has been creating my covers for 14 years. This novella, split into 3 parts, will be shared with my patrons on Patreon. This is the first of my episodic serial that I’ve wanted to do for years! Instead of holding onto the whole and releasing it as one story, I scheduled each part to be available on November 11, 18, and 25. And since it’s for my patrons, it won’t be for sale on all platforms.

It’s one check mark in a box that DZ Episode 1 is done. Another check mark is the completion and availability of my third audiobook, Of Objects and Obsessions. This leaves me with 2 projects to finish in 2022: “The Raid: Waldman Investigations Prequel” and “The Secret Gift.” Both have been started. TR will need some rewrites. SG will need to be finished. No deadline for TR, but I’m aiming for December 15 for SG, which makes sense since it’s a holiday romantic suspense. I’m pretty sure it will include a snowstorm, a snowmobile chase, an HOA president, and a dog. Six weeks, and counting… check that box.
