Some parts of the country are lucky and experience four seasons. Where I live, we get warm and scorching. In recent years, we have had hurricane spinoffs that have snapped the heat and humidity. We had one last week… next week we’re back into the low 100’s. Sigh.
Though the season outside hasn’t fully changed where I’m at, what is happening inside is on the edge of a change. For three years, I’ve searched for answers to my questions regarding my writing journey. It isn’t craft or marketing or business advice that I’ve needed. The class that just finished, given by Becca Syme, has given me much needed information and answers. On Sunday, I’ll have the opportunity to participate in a 1:1 coaching call. I have some questions to journal about, a little digging and thinking to do to prepare. Because I’ve gotten so much from this class, I’m hoping the session will send me in the right direction.
So much of what we do every day relies on habits. I know if I didn’t have certain habits and routines, I wouldn’t get done what needs doing each day. I haven’t decided if it’s easier to start a good habit or drop an unhelpful habit. Both require change. One of the questions at the conclusion of this class is: what habit/small change will you commit to doing for 30 days?
I think I’ll know if the habit/small change will work because it directly affects my writing. If the flow continues or increases, and there’s more joy in the process, then I’ll definitely keep the habit as is. If things still aren’t where I want them, then perhaps I’ll know enough to make my own tweaks to get where I want to be.
Unlike the weather outside, what goes on with my writing is more under my control. I’ve had different seasons during my career, and I’m optimistic that the cusp of change I’m standing on will be what makes the difference.
