Closing in on the End

This week, I sent out my last email newsletter for 2025. It gave me the chance to review the year and look at what I’ve accomplished instead of how far I still have to go. A subscriber commented that she thought this was a way of having more hope. I agree.

In looking forward, at least for the short term, I have the hard deadline of December 31 to finish whatever class materials I can create. By midnight, it all goes back into the garage. I have a list of 19 projects. I decided to recycle one, then I finished one today and one earlier this week. This brings me to 16. I’m sure as I go through I’ll be making more decisions about what is worth doing and what isn’t.

With Four Adventurous Seasons: A Short Story Anthology published and promoted, the end of November marked the end of the first push to let the world know the book was out there. Next weekend is the last meeting for this year for the writing group. I have a notebook full of story starters. I’ll add that to the file of others waiting to be published.

I have two weeks left this year for the paid gig. I predict some schedule juggling will happen. It reminds me to remain flexible with cancellations and last minute requests for a session. The company closes the last week of this month. I rarely have plans for my time off. But since it’s at the end of the year, I spend time fluffing out my calendar for the new year. It gives me inspiration, hope, and excitement.

It’s a bit of a balance at this time of the year. Closing out what was 2025 and looking ahead to 2026. It requires a lot of grace, acceptance, acknowledgment, patience, and quiet time.
