I’ve said it before… for me, the story has a life of its own. If I try to corral it, the results aren’t pleasant. The story I’m working on for the anthology is falling right in with everything else I’ve written.
We agreed on prompts. I decided I would write one story broken into four parts, including the prompt in each part of the whole story. We’re supposed to keep the word count to 4767 words for each of the four parts. I think it would be easier to up the word count to 5K words for each part. My story for the first section is over 6K words (*rolls her eyes*). I’ve deleted a sentence here and there and tried to shorten a few others. I’m hoping the others will be okay with my word count if I keep the next section less to shift the difference.
I finished the edits for the audiobook The Bookie. I’m really pleased with the results! The next project won’t be passed to the narrator until late spring. It’s been suggested that I could read my short stories and release them as audiobooks. Not the way my voice sounds when it’s recorded. Plus, I trust Jessica. She’s a professional with lots of experience.
With writing most days, I feel good about making progress with my projects. Some are easier to corral than others. I view it as an experiment. Which ones fulfill their requirement? Which ones want to run wild? How do you deal with projects that turn into more than you expected?
