For the first time in years, I’m participating in a creativity challenge. The best part is that I’m having fun 🙂 We have a prompt that we use to create something that fits on a 2×3 inch index card (this is from daisyyellow.com). My drawing ability rivals that of a seven-year-old using their non-dominant hand. The other two in the challenge are very talented artists. They paint, create graphics, use photography, etc. I’m using the only artistic talent I have, which is writing. These flash fiction pieces are a joy to write. I admit that I’m typing them and having to use an 8-point on the font, but it’s been years since I’ve enjoyed playing with words this much. I have plans to bind my cards at the end of the challenge.
Nothing moving on the anthology. I hope the beta reader returns the manuscript to the writer in the group who is her contact before that writer goes overseas for a fifteen-day vacation. The cover is supposed to be ordered. I was contacted several times about details needed for the designers, even though I had included everything. It also seems that the book description continues to get tweaked. I’m hopeful that it will get published before the end of the year. I won’t lose this thread of hope until December 31.
I continue to organize and downsize my stacks of projects. This is a good thing. The smaller the stacks, the less time it will take to get them done. Like letting go of any comparison to the others in the challenge, I continue to let go of what is too much to create or is outdated. Thinning the project queue is like driving on this curved road under a canopy of branches. The alternating of shadow and light, the fact I can only see a short distance ahead, and that there is little to view outside the tree trunks and earthen border keeps my attention forward and keeps me excited.
