Cycles

Sometimes it’s not so much the ebb and flow, but the cyclical way of things. Around this time last year, I was granted the privilege of once again teaching Language Arts. Though I had donated and recycled most of my teaching materials since I left the classroom, I still have half a dozen tubs with resources I won’t part with. I used them last year. This week I rifled through the tubs and pulled what I wanted. I don’t know if or when this opportunity will cycle around again, so I’m grateful for the chance to perhaps excite someone else about the mysteries and pleasures of language.

Today I returned to my work in progress, which will likely be the last math workbook I’ll produce. Even within this project, I cycle from a thought of, “This is a lot of work,” to “This is pretty cool.”

I again reached out to the writing group and encouraged them to send me their edited stories so we can publish the anthology. Funny that the only one who responded was the one who has been silent the last six months. The thought arises again that I can publish my story on its own, but it was my idea for the anthology in order to help a couple of the group see their writing in print. In the past, people have commented that I have a lot of patience. I would laugh because they didn’t see me be impatient with other things in life.

The beta reader returned my holiday novella. I’ll spend time this weekend reading her comments and making corrections. When I began my writing career, I cycled between fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. I haven’t written poetry in a long time. The cycle of publishing will take me from the novella to the math workbook (nonfiction). Perhaps some feelings I’m struggling with concerning a person in my life will find their way to the page, manifesting in lines and stanzas. What is something that is cycling in your universe?
