I count perhaps 4 days where I monitored the fires in AZ (and they were being contained–yay!!!), got my horse trailer fixed, go the tires on my car rotated, picked up a few groceries, just started to breathe again and drop my shoulders from around my ears, when BAM!!! another crisis arrives. Two friends evacuated their homes yesterday afternoon. One was able to return last night, the other is still at the rodeo arena where over 200 properties were evacuated–including animals. After flare ups and utilities are checked, they might be allowed back home later today, hopefully with electricity as the temps are predicted to be around 108 where their house is, which, last checked, is safe from the brush fire that is officially out, thanks to the firefighters on the ground and in the air. They have had too much work already this year!
In my minuscule writer’s world, I started my newsletter yesterday and will finish it today. It should go out by Friday. I did some editing last night, and found myself more concerned about a story that flows rather than keeping each and every word of the manuscript. It’s so easy to highlight and hit delete…I’ll be spending more time with the storyline today to flesh out and trim where needed.
Late Monday, my box of Survivors in the After paperbacks showed up. I spent time yesterday signing and packing a few in envelopes before venturing off to the post office to mail them to my beta readers and a few others as a thank you for their help in the making of the book. I will say that I’m disappointed in the way KDP packs the books. A few covers were bent because it lacked sufficient packing paper around the books. I also imagine the open box at the end of shoot and the books coming out of the printing press and being thrown inside helter-skelter. Of course the shape of the box and the pulled-apart tape on the seams also indicated its rough transport from factory to door. Ah, well…
I wish for you all to be safe, to find a bit of creativity and beauty around you, and to take care with what matters.
