This week marks the end of the summer sessions and the beginning of the fall sessions. It’s been a lot of hours in front of the computer! Next week is part two of the rolling transitions. I’ll be on a community college campus as I begin the final class for recertification. Next week is part three of the transitions. If all goes well, I could find small pockets of time for writing. But where the shift will really happen is the last week of the month.
I’m closing in on completing my part with clients. It’s a mix of anticlimactic and bittersweet… first, because it’s always bigger in my mind (and life) than it is for the clients when they move on. Second, because though I’ve enjoyed them, I’ve missed other parts of my life. Juggling my priorities the last six months means I’m ready for writing time (and time away from the computer and out of the chair!).
It looks like the project with other writers is a go! I’m looking forward to working with this group. The anthology won’t be done for several months. We still have lots of details to agree on, but since we all like each other, and three of us have completed a previous project, I’m optimistic that this one will be fun, even if it’s not profitable.
My narrator will finish with this current project before I have book 3 in the series done. I’m considering what other titles would do well in audiobook format. I come back to putting off the three book ones in three different series because I don’t want her to forget the characters’ voices. Yeah, I know how to fix that 🙂 Hence my eagerness for the last week of this month and big blocks of writing time.
I’m reminding myself to not be attached to results, whether those of the clients, the emotions that come up as these transitions roll through, or expectations that I can publish four books by the end of the year. Instead, I’m enjoying these finals days with clients. I’m listening to podcasts and reading good genre fiction to prime the pump of my own creativity. I’m not wishing for time to speed by (it goes by fast enough). I’m just acknowledging the transitions and doing my best to enjoy the ride. How do you prepare yourself for change?
