Just on the Other Side

Just through this hole in the hedge lay the unknown. Perhaps a set of croquet balls and white wire wickets. Or a litter of puppies rolling in the grass. Maybe a cliff overlooking a placid blue sea with gulls riding the thermals. This is the way I feel about things.

One writer sent her correctly formatted and completely edited stories for the anthology. Now there are two stories populating the “final” document on my computer. Another writer sent his stories, edited so we can read them (before it was a mishmash of letters, a direct printing of his dictation and unreadable). I’m hoping we can get his stories critiqued in the next couple of weeks and have formatted and edited stories ready for publishing. The fourth writer has sent two of three final edited stories, but not formatted. She has two stories to go. We’re closer than we were last week. I peer at the calendar, like looking through this arch, and wonder when we’ll step to the other side and have the anthology in print.

Some of my clients are already halfway through their summer sessions. Others are just getting started. By the end of July, we’ll all be on the other side of this window. Hopefully they’ll be more prepared for their next step.

I have yet to look at the comments and suggestions sent to me by the beta reader for The Lost Gift. Other things took priority this week. I feel that the story is pretty clean, so perhaps stepping through to publishing this project will go smoothly.

The last couple of days, I’ve managed a little time to work on the math workbook. I know now which activities take the longest time to complete and which ones go quickly. I have about three and half lessons left to create.

A bit of attention to these projects and I’ll be able to step through to the other side. The anthology will be done and published. The Lost Gift will be this year’s Christmas in July story. This math workbook will be available before the start of the school year. Excitement builds as finishing energy emerges. What carries you through to the other side of a project?
