I’ve learned that sometimes it’s best to let things rest. An idea, a completed manuscript, myself. As a high achiever, this concept of rest goes against the grain for me. I feel compelled to push through, to try the new idea, to start editing a manuscript right away, to tell myself I don’t have time to slow down or take time off. But when I do let things rest, everything is better for that space of stillness.
My narrator is working on The Bookie. I told her I hoped to have The Syndicate published by the time she’s done. Well, we all know about plans and what life does with them. For two weeks (longer, really), I’ve told myself that writing a few flash fiction stories should be easy. Well, life… plans… rest.
In the spirit of rest, I’ll leave this blog post with the idea that rest allows for all kinds of positive things. I can study my perspective, my choices, my energy, my priorities… and either accept that for today this is what I can do, or I can rail against rest and obliterate any progress. I hope that I’ve gained some wisdom with my years. I choose to rest, to study, to accept. Have you ever chosen to rest instead of force? How did it go?
