Life Like Abstract Art

I can’t say what happened this week, other than unscheduled time off from my creative projects. I look at my schedule and see that tasks were done each day, I met with clients, rode Holly, and ran errands. Anyone looking at that as a piece of abstract art might shrug and walk away.

Upon closer inspection, it was a week of healing from a medical procedure, which required me to do everything differently. I had to be present with each task. No daydreaming or pretend multi-tasking. Three times I was stumped while working with different clients. I didn’t do any book reading or watch a complete baseball game. I mentioned to a friend that it felt like I was in a parallel universe. This friend used a little math humor to say, “Well, that’s better than being in a perpendicular one.”

I like abstract art. It depends on the colors and how active the shapes are. I don’t try to make sense of it or figure out what the artist was trying to convey. I either like it or I have no reaction and move on. Much like someone would do if they saw a ten-second video of my life this past week.

My stack of spiral notebooks is still on my desk. A file folder with the beginnings of short stories is on top so I can choose some to go into the illustrated collection. I have made zero moves towards progress on the classroom materials. Nor have I heard from the graphic designer I asked to make a simple logo and add a border for some whitepapers. Nothing from the beta reader who has the anthology. No word from the writer in the anthology that the book cover was ordered. Perhaps this week has been perpendicular to my usual life. Or maybe the week is like abstract art, and I haven’t yet decided if I like the colors and shapes.
