After a week of work, I can say that progress has been made on all three projects. While at the writer’s retreat last weekend, I spent a few hours editing a couple of the stories from one of the writers in the anthology. I read, critiqued, and returned the four stories to the writer who has been absent for seven months. Hopefully it won’t take that long for the rewrites. It would be nice to publish the anthology before the end of the year.
I made one pass through my holiday novella. A few hours of quiet time in the office, and I’ll be able to decide which of the suggestions from the beta reader to keep and which to ignore. I can request a cover while I’m doing the edits and the other bits needed to publish.
During the write-ins, I’ve been focusing on the math book. This is likely my last one. The other ideas I have are very graphic heavy. Since that’s not my strength, I’ll leave the series with this book on math vocabulary and turn my attention to fiction. I can say that this kind of nonfiction requires a lot less effort, or perhaps a very different kind of effort, than handwriting the first draft of a novel.
I’ve written before about “finishing energy.” I feel that now as I push forward on the math book and wait patiently for the writers in the anthology to finish their stories. I know the holiday novella won’t take much to get ready to publish. And with each project that is finished, I can make progress on my long list of other titles to write. How do you feel as you near the finish line for a project?
