New and Old

Tucson Festival of Books is happening this weekend! I’ve been preparing for months. Updating my books. Getting the short story ready to give away. Deciding how to sell ebooks at a live event. And realizing that none of the authors whose company I’ve enjoyed the years I attended before the pandemic aren’t going to be there. I’m sure I’ll meet new people, authors and readers. I think it will be a mix of the old book event I loved and new, since it hasn’t happened in 2 years.

My paid gig is shifting. One of my clients got a cancer-free scan and will be returning to campus. I’ll miss him, but I’m so happy for him and his family. With dwindling hours, I’m redoing my resume. Maybe whatever new job is on the horizon will also be a mix of the old and the new. And if change wasn’t so hard, I may not be white-knuckling this weekend or the upcoming employment search. As it happens, I have next week off. A perfect time to see what’s available, and maybe get back to the page on my projects 🙂

Holly and I had the most fantastic ride this morning. 99% of the time she’s amazing and awesome. And when she isn’t, it’s usually because I’m late on my cues or feeling distracted. We climbed a few hills. Trotted on the trail. And we both had joy in our hearts. I don’t take her or anything we do together for granted. I’m grateful every single day I get to be with her.

May you read good books and recognize the joy in each day.

Reflecting Before the End

Photo by Michele Venne It's almost the fourth quarter of 2023. Not one to be rushed at the last minute, I start reflecting on the current year, and planning for the next, long before midnight on New Year's Eve. Maybe I'm thrilled that I've survived another summer in...

Organized Flow

Photo by Michele Venne Perhaps the title of this post is an oxymoron. Everything ebbs and flows. Energy. Motivation. Creativity. If we figure out how to wait when whatever it is ebbs, we can focus on other aspects of our life. And when whatever it is flows, if we've...
