The narrator has started on Of Art and Air. I don’t think I’ll hear from her or Findaway until she’s done. Then I think I need to edit it. After that, they package it and distribute. I’ll be asking for a copy so I can put it on my website as well. That same narrator is contracted to do the other two books in the Tanner Trilogy. Part of me wants to jump in with other projects. Part of me says there’s no rush, that I need to know more about the process, and maybe the same narrator will want to do all my books. Wouldn’t that be cool?
I haven’t written this week. Many people try to balance life and work. I don’t have strict lines that delineate my “life” from my “work,” so I’m often switching hats. I do a little of this, then I change to finish that, then I remember to do this other thing. Eventually, stuff gets done. And my method mostly works for me. What I need to practice is balancing my time and my energy. I put everything I have into whatever I’m doing, so after 5 or 6 hours online with students, I don’t have much energy left for writing. I did 10 years ago! But my energy level was different then than it is today. So I still have ideas and a few notes for The Bookie. I don’t have much for the short story, but that’s because I haven’t spent much time with it. This is why I don’t have hard deadlines for my projects.
As April ends, so do the sale prices for Of Gifts and the Goddess and Of Dolphins and Desires. Neither book got many downloads. I’m fairly certain it’s because readers are always looking for free books and these were on sale for $1.99 (with amazing new covers!). For May, I’m promoting my two boxed sets, The Tanner Trilogy (on sale for $3.99) and The Stars Series (on sale for $2.99). I’ll see how many readers will enjoy the discount of a boxed set, which is already discounted from the individual books. I’ve committed to promoting my books these next few months, and I hope readers are willing to try them.
In so many ways, I’m on the road between here and there. With audiobooks, with my current projects, with marketing my books… but also with Holly, with my yoga practice, with my paid work. I’m reminding myself to glance behind me and celebrate how far I’ve come, but to also look forward so I know what direction I’m moving towards.
