It’s like loading the last box into a moving truck. It’s like standing in the driveway for the last time looking at where you spent part of your life. It’s both the excitement of what’s next and saying goodbye to a comfortable routine. This is how I feel when I know a (planned and anticipated) change is coming.
The last of the planned rolling changes is happening next Thursday. So, if you read next week’s blog, this doozy of a class will have ended, including the oral final exam. If I’ve done things right, the renewal of my certification will go through smoothly. Then there’s just one more change, one I’m not in the least able to control, that I’m optimistic will follow within a few days.
Staying with the theme of change, the NaNoWriMo organization has taken another couple of hits. I participated officially only once. The other years, I was a NaNo rebel, using November to edit projects, write flash fiction or short stories, or work with a team of writers in competition with another team as to which one could write the most words. This year, I’m participating loosely with a group who decided to break from NaNo and have their writing challenge in October. We get an extra day and don’t have to contend with a major holiday that most people celebrate. The goal isn’t 50,000 words, just as many as I can get down. Since this most-awaited change isn’t happening until next week, I’m behind the others in the challenge.
Between the writing challenge and my eagerness to return to my creative projects, I’m visualizing chunks of time, community, and ample motivation and inspiration. It’s like getting in the moving truck, glancing at the map, then heading down the road to another adventure. How do you feel about change?
