It’s the end of February. It’s the end of another trip around the sun for me. It’s the end of the last project of my classroom materials. It’s the beginning of my return to just writing, of accepting my schedule change (and what led to it), and a new relationship with an adopted dog. Turning the page means endings and beginnings.
I’ve procrastinated finishing the classroom materials. I finally reached out to my graphics person and asked her to please do two packet covers. Everything else can wait (I’ve already sent information including the game boards to my web designer who uploaded everything to the new tab on my website). That, and the fast approaching end of the second month beyond my deadline for this massive project, has spurred me to read the novel and finish the packet.
I have no big plans to celebrate my birthday. Holly and I will go for a ride. Lady and I will go for our walk. I might use one of my gift cards to see a movie. I’ll buy a vegan cupcake and light my own candle. What’s a birthday without a birthday wish?
I started reading J.R. Ward’s 20th Anniversary book on the Black Dagger Brotherhood and smiled when she said that she just records what she sees on the movie screen in her head. I do the same. She mentioned that when she tries to force the characters to do something or to make the story shorter, everything goes dark. Just like me! When I think about my next writing projects, scenes pop into my head. I never take that for granted, and I’m always grateful for that gift.
Because of my schedule change at work, I tell myself to not squander the added available time. I need to make progress on writing projects and clear out my inbox of webinar replays. I have the same plan I devised last time this happened (but things turned around at work, so the plan was set aside). The available time also allows for an added afternoon walk with Lady, my adopted dog. The desire had been in my heart for a long time, though I was burned by a couple of tries with dogs before. And like turning the page on many other things, the page opened to Lady and me and we’re getting along. For now, that’s enough flipping papers.
