In the last few of days, I’ve been staring wide-eyed at the computer. Writer 4 came through, submitting all his stories and the extras needed for all the parts of the anthology. I finished the edits, put all the stories together in one document, and formatted it in Vellum. The beta reader has her copy. I complied all the parts for the cover, except the description, which I asked one of the writers to do. The other 3 writers also have a pdf of the book so they can give any final suggestions or corrections. For now, my job is done.
I made myself a written plan so my ideas were on paper and not floating in my head where they could drift away. First on that plan was to finish the edits, then the formatting, for the anthology. Next, I checked a book in my back list for how to format two future nonfiction projects. Then came the job of shuffling through materials I’ve created to find which ones are viable and which ones need to be tossed. The longer I hang on to things, the more they take up residence in my head about being possible projects. If I do the project and/or eliminate the thing, then it clears my head, my to-do list, my digital files, and makes the path to fiction projects smooth. I’m on the final task. Once I know all the pieces, then I can put them together.
I know all the pieces of publishing a book. This anthology has taken a while to get to this point, and I’m excited to see it in print. And since I wasn’t alone in completing this project, I’ll have others to celebrate with. Perhaps being part of all the pieces that make a published book will encourage the other writers to write and publish their own projects.
