This week brought a couple of projects to the end. I’ve had fun doing the ICAD challenge (daisyyellow.com). Today is day 61, the last prompt. The other two participants shared some cool depictions of the prompts. They used paint, pencil, photography, graphics, and markers. Other than the second prompt that was draw a map, I wrote a flash fiction story for each one. Both people who did this with me have read some of my stories, so they know I write romantic suspense. Most of these little stories were also romance. I changed the setting and the genre. I tried to mix it up so I wouldn’t get bored writing the same thing. I thought it interesting that they both commented most on my pieces that were “sad” and didn’t have much to say about the crime stories. I plan to put the index cards into a book of some kind. Perhaps I’ll do another challenge like this again.
The other project that closes, for the most part, is the anthology. It took a year, lots of encouragement, so much work that my mind spins when I think about it, but it’s all done except for the division of royalties. We meet tomorrow for our monthly gathering. I’ll distribute their author copies, take care of a little bit of business, then write a bit. Up until the end, there was one snag after another. I’m not sure if that was the universe testing my perseverance or telling me that isn’t what I was supposed to be doing. Well, it’s done. I hope everyone is satisfied with the results.
I have another huge project that has a hard deadline of December 31. I have plans to return to my waiting manuscripts in 2026 and just write and publish projects that have been too long on the shelf. I started adding a little to my new calendar. I’ve reduced my task list concerning my writing career, so I’m looking forward to a simpler way of being. Since next week is Thanksgiving, 2025 seems to be wrapping up, too. I still have some intentions to fulfill in these remaining weeks. This time of year is like a balance between finishing energy and beginning energy.
